Nalasopara: Cooker Blast at ZP School Injures Two Students and Woman
Nalasopara, 8th September 2026: Two students and a woman sustained burn injuries after a pressure cooker exploded while khichdi was being prepared for the midday meal at a Zilla Parishad school in Nalasopara on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at around 1:30 pm at the Zilla Parishad Sopara Marathi School in Nalasopara West. According to preliminary information, khichdi was being cooked in the school’s kitchen for students when the pressure cooker suddenly exploded.
The impact of the explosion caused boiling hot khichdi to spill outside the cooker. Two students, who were standing in a queue for their midday meal, suffered burn injuries after the hot food fell on them. The injured students have been identified as Gautam Guddu Prasad (11) and Ayush Chaudhary (9). Poonam Mangesh Kadam (32), who was preparing the meal, was also injured in the incident.
All three injured people were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Medical treatment is currently underway.
The school reportedly has around 101 students. The incident created panic among students and staff members present on the premises.
After receiving information about the incident, Mayor Ajeev Patil visited the school and reviewed the situation. He also inquired about the health condition of the injured. Meanwhile, local police visited the spot, conducted a panchnama and have initiated further investigation into the cause of the explosion.
