Mumbai Hospitals on Edge: Bomb Threats Shake Jaslok, KEM, and Others

Mumbai, 19th June 2024: On Tuesday, more than 50 hospitals and a college in Mumbai reported receiving bomb threats via email, according to officials. Several prominent hospitals including Jaslok Hospital, Raheja Hospital, Seven Hills Hospital, Kohinoor Hospital, KEM Hospital, JJ Hospital, and St. George Hospital received threatening emails claiming explosives were planted under beds and in bathrooms, capable of causing extensive damage upon detonation.

Hinduja College of Commerce in the Girgaon area also received a similar threat email.

The Mumbai Police confirmed that these emails were sent using a VPN network and originated from a website named Beeble.com. Each email was customized and sent individually to the hospitals.

Upon receiving the threats, the hospitals promptly alerted the police. Subsequently, bomb disposal squads and police conducted thorough searches across the hospitals but found no suspicious items.

The police have not yet identified the sender of these emails or determined the motive behind the threats.

Earlier in the day, Hinduja College alerted local police about a similar threat. Police and bomb squad officers conducted a detailed investigation but did not find any suspicious items.

The bomb threats to hospitals and the college came hours after 41 airports across the country also received similar threatening emails. Security checks were intensified at airports like Chennai, Patna, Jaipur, and others, though the threats were ultimately determined to be hoaxes.

Similar hoax emails have targeted schools, colleges, hotels, and airports nationwide, prompting Indian cybersecurity agencies to investigate the origins of these emails, suspected to have been sent from abroad.
