Accident at Thane Railway Station Claims Life of 45-Year-Old Interior Designer
Thane, 11th July 2024: A tragic incident unfolded at Thane railway station on Monday night when a 45-year-old man, Afzal Fakira Shaikh, lost his life after slipping and falling into the platform gap while attempting to board the Amravati Express, according to the Government Railway Police (GRP). Commuters who witnessed the accident promptly alerted the GRP, who rushed him to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa. Despite receiving treatment, Shaikh succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by a GRP officer.
Afzal Fakira Shaikh, a resident of Dudh Naka, Kalyan, worked as an interior designer in the city. He is survived by his wife and three children, including a son preparing for a Central government staff selection exam and a daughter pursuing Pharmacy studies.
The incident occurred around 9 pm when Shaikh, returning from Vashi after completing some work, attempted to board the Amravati Express bound for Nashik at Thane station. Unfortunately, he slipped and fell into the gap between the platform and the train.
Senior Police Inspector Archana Dusane from Thane Government Railway Police stated, “Our GRP team responded swiftly upon receiving alerts from commuters. Shaikh suffered serious injuries to his waist. An accidental death report has been filed, marking the eighth such incident reported in July.”
Following a post-mortem examination, Shaikh’s body was handed over to his family for last rites.
