Mumbai Naval Fire: INS Brahmaputra Left Lying on Its Side; Search Underway for Missing Sailor

Mumbai, 22nd July 2024: The INS Brahmaputra is currently lying on its side following a significant fire on the vessel, the Navy reported on Monday. Authorities are actively searching for a missing sailor who has not been located since the fire.

An investigation into the incident has been initiated by the Navy.

The fire erupted aboard INS Brahmaputra on July 21, 2024, while the ship was undergoing refit. The crew, with help from firefighters at Mumbai’s naval dockyard, managed to control the blaze by the morning of July 22. However, the ship experienced a severe tilt to its port side and could not be restored to an upright position.

According to the Navy’s statement, efforts to right the ship were unsuccessful, and it continues to rest on its side at its berth.

The Navy reported that while all personnel have been accounted for except one junior sailor, a search operation is underway to locate the missing individual. An inquiry has been launched to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
