Amazon’s Customer Service Criticized as Mumbai Man Receives Tea Cups Instead of Smartphone

Mumbai, 1st August 2024: In a recent incident involving Amazon, a 42-year-old resident of Mahim, Mumbai reported receiving a set of tea cups instead of the Rs 55,000 smartphone he had ordered. Amar Chavan, a deputy engineer at Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST), had purchased a Tecno Phantom V Fold 5G smartphone from Amazon. The parcel, delivered on July 15, contained tea cups rather than the smartphone.
Chavan has filed a police complaint against Amazon, accusing the company of fraud. He claims that despite multiple calls to customer service, Amazon failed to address his issue or provide any support. “I contacted the shopping portal to report the issue, and they promised to investigate. However, they did not follow up until July 20. When I reached out again, they showed no interest in resolving the matter, so I involved the police,” Chavan told PTI. He also mentioned that he had given the police CCTV footage of the delivery.
This case follows a similar incident in Bengaluru, where a woman discovered a snake inside her Amazon package. Tanvi had ordered a Microsoft Xbox controller from Amazon India and was shocked to find a snake instead. She shared a video on social media, stating, “Ordered an Xbox controller from @amazonIN and received a free snake with it!” Tanvi and her husband reported that Amazon’s customer support left them on hold for over two hours, forcing them to handle the situation on their own in the middle of the night.
