Tripura Native Apprehended by Thane Police for Series of Gold and Silver Jewelry Thefts

Thane, 1st August 2024: A man who frequently travelled from Tripura to Mumbai and neighbouring areas to steal gold and silver jewellery, while evading capture by living in sewers in the Santacruz area, has been apprehended by Thane police, authorities reported on Wednesday.
The suspect, Raju Mohd Shaikh, also known as Bengali, hails from Agartala, Tripura, and has a history of theft, particularly targeting residential areas for valuable ornaments.
Shivraj Patil, Deputy Police Commissioner of Thane’s crime unit, revealed that the police uncovered his criminal activities while investigating a tip-off about a potential transaction involving stolen jewellery in the Wagle estate area. “A sting operation was conducted, during which we apprehended the accused with cash and jewellery valued at Rs 1.13 lakh. Upon questioning, he admitted to being involved in approximately seven recent theft cases,” said Senior Inspector Vikas Ghodke from Thane Crime Branch Unit-5.
