Pipeline Burst in Powai Disrupts Water Supply Across Central and Western Mumbai

Mumbai, 23rd August 2024: Water supply in certain parts of central and western Mumbai is expected to be disrupted due to a major pipeline burst in the Gautam Nagar area of Powai, according to a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official.
The incident occurred around 12:45 pm today (August 23) when an 1800-mm diameter pipeline, which supplies water to the city from Tansa Lake in Thane district, ruptured in the Gautam Nagar locality. As a result, areas in K-East (Andheri East), H-East (Bandra East), and G-North (Dharavi and Sion) wards are likely to face water supply issues, the official reported.
To prevent water wastage, the valves were promptly shut off as a torrent of water gushed from the damaged pipe. BMC officials have isolated the affected section of the main line, which connects the Powai anchor block to the Maroshi tunnel shaft. Efforts are underway to repair the leak and restore normal water supply as quickly as possible.
