Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer, and Ajinkya Rahane to Represent Mumbai in the Irani Cup Against the Rest of India

Mumbai, 24th September 2024: Mumbai’s all-rounder Shardul Thakur, along with Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane, is set to represent the Mumbai team in the upcoming Irani Cup match against the Rest of India (ROI) side, scheduled to begin in Lucknow on October 1.
According to sources, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) plans to request the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to release Sarfaraz Khan, who is currently part of India’s squad for the Test series against Bangladesh. The second Test starts on September 27, and it is understood that if Khan is not included in the playing XI, the selection committee may release him on the third day of the match. The MCA selection committee is set to finalize the squad on Tuesday.
Thakur, who underwent foot surgery in London in June, will be making his first domestic appearance since his recovery. His injury had flared up during India’s tour of South Africa earlier this year. Despite his injury, Thakur continued to play a key role in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy campaign, including scoring his maiden first-class century and helping Mumbai secure their 42nd Ranji Trophy title.
The national selection committee is expected to announce the Rest of India (ROI) squad for the Irani Cup on Tuesday, likely comprising emerging players and top performers from the recently concluded Duleep Trophy.
