Navi Mumbai Crime Branch Arrests 27-Year-Old for Murder Near Orion Mall in Panvel

Navi Mumbai, 24th September 2024: The Navi Mumbai Crime Branch’s Unit Two has apprehended a 27-year-old man for allegedly committing murder. The body of the victim, who has yet to be identified, was found in a bush behind Orion Mall in Panvel several days ago.

The suspect, Dhiraj Raju Sharma, a resident of Koliwada in Panvel, was arrested after an extensive investigation. According to the police, the victim was discovered strangled with a belt near Orion Mall, leading to a murder case being filed at Panvel City Police Station.

Although initial leads were scarce, a parallel investigation headed by Police Inspector Umesh Gawli of Crime Branch Unit Two utilized CCTV footage, technical evidence, and information from sources to locate and arrest Sharma.

Investigators uncovered that Sharma and the victim had been drinking together, and a heated argument resulted in Sharma strangling the victim with a belt. After his arrest, Sharma was transferred to Panvel City Police Station for further inquiries.

Efforts to identify the deceased are still in progress, and the investigation remains active.
