Mumbai: BMC Advises Citizens to Filter and Boil Water as Rain Causes Discoloration
Mumbai, 23rd October 2024: Residents receiving discoloured water at home are urged not to worry, according to the civic authorities. Continuous heavy rainfall in the Bhatsa reservoir’s catchment area, one of Mumbai’s seven water sources, has caused the water to become cloudy since October 21.
In response to reports of murky water across various parts of the city, particularly in the eastern suburbs, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is implementing corrective actions at its purification plants to reduce the cloudiness. Citizens are also advised to filter and boil their drinking water as a precautionary measure.
The BMC’s hydraulic engineering department has intensified its filtration process and is using chlorine for disinfection. Despite these efforts, the public is encouraged to continue filtering and boiling drinking water until further updates. The BMC assures that they are closely monitoring water quality and working diligently to restore the supply of clear water.
