Mumbai: Home-Service Agent Allegedly Steals Rs 5 Lakh Jewellery During Appointment in Malad

Mumbai, 5th October 2024: An agent from a home-service platform allegedly stole jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh from a residence while there to perform a haircut and shave booked through the app. A complaint has been registered at Malad police station regarding the incident.

The case involves a 39-year-old Malad resident working with a multinational retail firm who booked a haircut and shave appointment on November 1. The following day, a representative claiming to be from the platform contacted the resident, confirming a 12:30 p.m. appointment at his home.

According to the FIR, after completing the haircut and shave, the representative pointed out blemishes on the complainant’s face, suggesting a facial treatment. When the complainant agreed, the service provider applied various creams and covered his eyes with a cloth, instructing him to keep them closed.

The complainant later recalled hearing the sound of his cupboard opening but dismissed it at the time. After the service provider left, he noticed that the cupboard was slightly open and, upon inspection, discovered the jewellery missing.

When he asked his mother about the jewellery, she said she had no information. Suspecting the service provider’s involvement, the complainant approached the police.

Malad police have launched an investigation and issued a summons to the service provider’s mobile number, according to an officer from the station. Efforts to reach the home-service platform via email for a response were unsuccessful.

The incident occurred on November 2.
