Mumbai Metro Line 3 Encounters Major Technical Issue, Stranding Passengers

Mumbai, 11th November 2024: Mumbai Metro Line 3 faced its first major technical failure on Saturday evening when a train travelling from Sahar to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) stopped unexpectedly inside the tunnel. This left passengers, including children and elderly individuals, stranded between stations in the Aarey-BKC underground corridor.
The malfunction occurred around 7:30 pm between Sahar and T1 stations, sparking panic as commuters shared their experiences on social media. One post on X (formerly Twitter) at 8:10 pm described the situation: “Stuck on Metro Line 3 for over an hour between Marol and T1 station. Babies crying, staff unresponsive, senior citizens with us.”
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) stated at 5:57 pm on Sunday, confirming the disruption nearly 22 hours later. They clarified that the issue was quickly resolved, with the train reaching the T1 station within 20 minutes. Passengers were then transferred to a different train, and services resumed shortly after.
However, the MMRCL’s statement did not provide specifics on the technical problem, which frustrated commuters who criticized the delay in communication and lack of clarity. The corporation expressed gratitude for passengers’ patience and reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and efficient service.
This incident marks the first significant disruption for Mumbai Metro Line 3, a vital link in the city’s growing transit network. As the metro system expands, there is mounting pressure on authorities to provide timely updates and ensure smooth service for commuters.
