Woman Sarpanch from Thane District Faces Legal Action Over Alleged Bribe Demand

Thane, 12th December 2024: A woman sarpanch from Thane district, Maharashtra, is facing legal action after allegedly demanding a Rs 10,000 bribe from a property owner, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The property owner had approached the Vangni gram panchayat to register a newly purchased house for property tax purposes, as stated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Initially, the sarpanch asked for a bribe of Rs 20,000 but later reduced the amount to Rs 10,000.

The property owner reported the incident to the ACB, which filed a police complaint. Following this, the Kulgaon police registered an FIR on Wednesday, charging the sarpanch under the Prevention of Corruption Act, as confirmed by the ACB.
