68-Year-Old Man Rescued from Malfunctioning Elevator in Thane’s Ishant Residency

Thane, 17th December 2024: A 68-year-old man was rescued after being trapped in a malfunctioning elevator in a seven-storey building in Thane’s Naupada area on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:35 p.m. when C.G. Satra, a resident of the sixth floor of Ishant Residency, became stuck in the lift.
Yasin Tadvi, in charge of the Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), explained that the elevator malfunctioned and became stuck between the third and fourth floors. Neighbours alerted the fire brigade, who arrived quickly, forced open the elevator doors, and safely rescued the trapped man.
The incident has raised concerns among residents and activists about the increasing number of lift malfunctions in the city. Just days earlier, a couple had been stuck in a car lift for nearly 30 minutes at a high-rise in Pokhran-1, and two residents and a child were injured when an elevator malfunctioned and fell from the first floor of a prominent nearby complex two months ago.
