Mumbai: Man Dies After Collision with BEST Bus Near Shivaji Nagar Junction

Mumbai, 17th December 2024: A 25-year-old man died after his two-wheeler collided with a BEST wet-lease bus near the Shivaji Nagar Junction Highway bus stop on Saturday night.

The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. when the bus, travelling from Shivaji Nagar to Kurla, came into contact with Dikshit Vinod Rajput’s bike as it collided with the right rear tyre of the bus. Rajput sustained a fatal head injury in the crash.

Local authorities quickly arrived at the scene and rushed Rajput to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, where he was pronounced dead at 12:16 a.m. The bus driver, Vinod Aabaji Rankhambe (39), was taken into custody for questioning.

The bus, operating under a wet-lease arrangement with the BVG group, was part of the Shivaji Nagar Depot’s service. Both the BVG group and BEST officials have stated they are fully cooperating with the investigation.

The police are currently examining the details of the accident to determine who was at fault. This incident follows closely on the heels of another tragic accident in Kurla, where the BEST bus driver lost control, causing seven fatalities and running over 22 vehicles.
