22-Year-Old Throws Slipper At Judge During Thane Court Hearing, FIR Filed

Thane, 23rd December 2024: A 22-year-old man, charged in a murder case, threw a slipper at a judge during a hearing in a sessions court in Thane district, Maharashtra, police reported on Monday.

The slipper missed the judge and hit a wooden frame in front of his desk before falling beside the bench clerk. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at the Kalyan court, leading to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused.

Kiran Santosh Bharam, the accused, was brought before District and Additional Sessions Judge R G Waghmare for a hearing in his murder case. During the proceedings, the accused requested the judge to assign his case to another court. The judge instructed him to request his lawyer. However, when the lawyer’s name was called, he was absent, and the accused was asked to provide an alternative lawyer’s name. The court set a new date for the hearing.

In response, the accused bent down, removed his slipper, and threw it toward the judge, surprising everyone in the courtroom.

Following the incident, an FIR was filed under sections 132 (assault or criminal force to prevent a public servant from performing his duties) and 125 (acts endangering the life or safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
