Mumbai Police to Deploy 15,000 Personnel for New Year’s Eve Security

Mumbai, 31st December 2024: Mumbai police are set to implement extensive security measures as the city prepares for New Year’s Eve celebrations on Tuesday. Over 15,000 personnel will be deployed across key areas to address concerns such as crimes against women, maintaining law and order, and tackling traffic violations, including drunk driving.
The police will station a significant number of officers for the occasion, including eight additional commissioners, 29 deputy commissioners, 53 assistant commissioners, 2,184 officers, and 12,048 constables. Specialized units such as platoons from the State Reserve Police Force, Quick Response Teams (QRT), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), Riot Control Police, and Home Guards will also assist in ensuring safety.
A senior officer explained that multiple security measures will be in place throughout the city, including nakabandis (roadblocks) at key locations to address traffic and security issues. Regular patrolling and fixed-point security will be set up in high-traffic areas, especially near popular events and crowded public spots.
Additionally, the local police and traffic department will launch a special campaign targeting traffic violations, with a focus on drunk driving. Increased checks will be carried out at high-risk locations and establishments to prevent criminal activities, including public disturbances, harassment of women, illegal alcohol sales, and narcotics use. Offenders will face strict legal consequences.
This comprehensive security plan has been developed under the guidance of Mumbai’s police commissioner, special commissioner, and joint commissioner (Law and Order).
