Man Arrested in Noida for Threatening Mumbai Blast During Ganesh Utsav
Mumbai/Noida, 6th September 2025: A 50-year-old man who threatened to carry out a massive blast in Mumbai during Ganesh Utsav was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Ashwin Kumar Supra, a native of Patna, Bihar, who had been living in Noida for the past five years and was practicing astrology and vastu.
According to officials, Supra sent a threatening message to the Mumbai Police WhatsApp helpline late Thursday night. The message claimed that “14 terrorists of Lashkar-e-Jihadi have entered Mumbai with 400 kg of RDX fitted in 34 vehicles and are planning a big blast that could kill one crore people.”
The message triggered a high alert across the city. The Mumbai Police, along with the Crime Branch, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and other security agencies, immediately launched an investigation. After tracing the source, a Crime Branch team reached Noida and arrested Supra from Sector-79 Society.
Police seized the accused’s mobile phone, SIM card, four SIM card holders, six memory card holders, one external SIM slot, and two digital cards. He was brought to Mumbai for further questioning.
During interrogation, Supra reportedly confessed that he had previously spent three months in Patna jail in 2023 in connection with a fraud case filed by a man named Firoz. Supra told police that he wanted to take revenge on Firoz, so he sent the threatening message to Mumbai Police in Firoz’s name. However, the details of the fraud case and the identity of Firoz are still under investigation.
Authorities confirmed that the threat was a hoax but said strict action will be taken against Supra for creating panic during the ongoing Ganesh Utsav celebrations.
