Right to Education Concerns Raised After 30 Boisar Students Blocked from Exams

Tarapur, Boisar, 11th October 2025: A dispute over unpaid school fees at Seva Ashram Institute in Boisar caused a temporary disruption during the ongoing half-yearly exams, as some students were initially prevented from appearing for their tests.

The English-medium school, which has 618 students from Junior KG to Class IV, was conducting exams on Wednesday (October 8) when 30 students from Classes III and IV were reportedly denied the Marathi subject question paper. The school administration cited unpaid fees—ranging from one to three years—as the reason and initially barred the students from taking the exam.

Parents quickly intervened, creating a commotion at the school. Following the protests, the students were allowed to appear for the exams. However, parents expressed concerns that the incident caused unnecessary mental stress to the children and violated the Right to Education Act.

Ashok Patil, In-charge Education Officer (Primary) of Palghar Zilla Parishad, stated that the school had been instructed to allow students with outstanding fees to appear for exams. “The school has been asked to provide an extension to students who have pending fees to ensure their education is not disrupted,” Patil said.

Principal Deepti Pimple of Seva Ashram Institute explained the school’s position, noting that many students have fees pending for one to three years. “Despite repeated extensions and reminders to parents, the outstanding fees remain unpaid. This has put the school under financial strain,” Pimple said.
