Ticket Collector Rescues Elderly Woman from Moving Train at Kurla Station

Mumbai, 11th February 2026: An elderly woman was rescued after slipping while attempting to board a moving suburban train at Kurla station on February 7, 2026. The incident occurred at around 12.30 pm when a CSMT-bound local train had halted at the platform and began moving.

According to railway officials, the woman lost her balance as the train picked up speed and fell on the platform close to the moving coaches. John Paul, a Commercial Clerk cum Ticket Collector (CCTC) posted at Mumbai Division of Central Railway, was on duty at the station at the time. On noticing the incident, he rushed towards the passenger and pulled her away from the train, preventing further injury.

In the process, Paul sustained a minor shoulder sprain, officials said.

The woman was identified as Baby Bhaskar Gaikar. She was taken to the Ticket Collector’s office, where she was given water and attended to. A family member was informed, and she later left for home.

Central Railway officials confirmed the incident and reiterated their appeal to passengers not to board or alight from moving trains, citing safety risks.
