Mumbai: Mulund Metro Collapse Sparks Outrage: Five Arrested as Victim’s Family Demands Rs 2 Crore, Govt Job

Mulund, 16th February 2026: Public anger intensified on Sunday after the family of Ramdhani Yadav, who lost his life in the Mulund metro bridge collapse, refused to accept his body and staged a protest demanding ₹2 crore in compensation and a government job for a family member.

Even as protests unfolded, police confirmed that five officials linked to the construction project have been arrested. An FIR was registered at Mulund Police Station against representatives of Milan Road Buildtech and DB Hill LBG under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with other applicable provisions.

Those arrested include:
Harish Chauhan, Project Director
Kuldeep Sapkal, Project Manager
Saurab Singh, Deputy Manager
Prashant Bhoir, Supervisor
(All from Milan Road Buildtech)
Avdhoot Inamdar, Project Manager, DB Hill LBG

Investigators are examining whether lapses in construction safety norms contributed to the fatal incident.

The accident occurred around 12.15 pm on Saturday on LBS Road near the Johnson & Johnson factory in Mulund. A parapet section of an under-construction elevated metro bridge suddenly gave way and fell onto a passing autorickshaw.

Ramdhani Yadav, who was inside the vehicle, was crushed under the debris and declared dead at the scene. The autorickshaw was severely damaged in the impact.

Three others sustained injuries:
-Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45)
-Mahendra Pratap Yadav (52)
-Deepa Ruhiya (40)

Officials stated that Rajkumar Yadav remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in the ICU of a nearby hospital.

On Sunday, members of the Yadav family, supported by members of their community, gathered at the accident site. They set a 5 pm deadline for authorities to provide written assurance regarding their demands and warned of blocking the road if their conditions were not fulfilled.

Police intervened to prevent escalation and escorted the family to Mulund Police Station for discussions. Local MLA Mohit Kotecha and former MP Manoj Kotak joined the talks to ease tensions.

According to a relative, Shashikant Yadav, the contractor’s representatives approached the family late Saturday night with an offer of ₹15 lakh, along with ₹5 lakh in government relief.

The family rejected the ₹20 lakh package, describing it as inadequate given that Yadav was the sole breadwinner. They have insisted on ₹2 crore compensation and a government job for one member of the family.

Ramdhani Yadav hailed from Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh. He was the elected head of Bharthani village and represented the Samajwadi Party. He is survived by three daughters.

Family members voiced concerns about securing their education and future marriage expenses, questioning how the currently offered compensation could safeguard their long-term well-being.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to safety standards at Mumbai’s rapidly expanding infrastructure sites. With investigations ongoing and accountability under scrutiny, the incident has triggered renewed debate over oversight mechanisms in large-scale public works projects.
