Bombay High Court Orders Fresh Inspection of Navi Mumbai Hotel
Mumbai, 21st July 2026: The Bombay High Court has directed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct a fresh inspection of a five-star hotel in Navi Mumbai after the agency reported serious hygiene violations during an earlier inspection.
According to the FDA, the inspection revealed unhygienic conditions in the hotel’s kitchen, including foul odour, cockroaches, and mould-contaminated food. Based on these findings, the authority decided to continue the suspension of the hotel’s food licence.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Gautam Ankhad instructed the FDA to carry out a fresh inspection and submit a detailed report. The court asked the authority to verify whether the hotel management has complied with the required food safety and hygiene standards.
The bench also directed the FDA not to take immediate coercive action without reassessing the current situation, noting that the hotel provides employment to several people and their livelihood should also be taken into consideration.
During the hearing, government pleader Neha Bhide submitted that strict compliance with kitchen hygiene norms could have led to reconsideration of the licence suspension. However, the inspection found unhygienic conditions, including foul smell, cockroaches, and mouldy food, which justified the FDA’s decision to keep the suspension in place.
The High Court will hear the matter further after the FDA submits its fresh inspection report.
