BKC To Western Express Highway: Final SCLR Link Opens, Travel Time To Reduce By 35 Minutes

Mumbai, 13th August 2026: Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) is now fully operational after the final 1.40-km stretch connecting Bharat Nagar Road to Vakola Junction was opened to the public on Thursday.

The newly opened elevated corridor completes the 10.30-km SCLR network connecting the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) with the Western Express Highway (WEH). The final stretch was developed under Phase II of the SCLR extension.

The new link provides direct two-way connectivity between the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and the WEH. Vehicles travelling from BKC can connect directly to the SCLR cable-stayed bridge, while traffic from the WEH can access the new elevated corridor through the existing Vakola Flyover.

With the entire corridor now operational, motorists travelling between the eastern and western parts of the city can bypass Kalina, Vakola and Kalanagar on key routes. According to data from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), travel time on these routes is expected to reduce by up to 35 minutes.

The completed SCLR network provides signal-free east-west connectivity across areas including BKC, Santacruz, Chembur, Kalina, Mumbai University, Tilak Nagar and Kurla.

The corridor is also expected to reduce traffic pressure on several arterial roads and improve connectivity to BKC, Mumbai University, Mumbai International Airport and surrounding residential and commercial areas.

The opening of the final stretch marks the completion of the integrated SCLR network between Mumbai’s Eastern and Western Express Highways.
