Mumbai: Kurla Landslide Two Dead, Several Feared Trapped After Heavy Rain
Mumbai, 12th August 2026: Two people were killed and several others were feared trapped after a landslide struck Mumbai’s Kurla area in the early hours of Wednesday following heavy rainfall.
The incident occurred around 3 am in the Ashok Nagar area, under the jurisdiction of Ghatkopar police. According to officials, debris from the landslide fell on houses, leaving people trapped underneath.
Police said two bodies have been recovered so far, while rescue operations are underway. Personnel from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police and other agencies have been deployed at the site.
DCP Ganesh Shinde said around four to five people were initially feared trapped under the debris.
The deceased have been identified as Sahil Ansari, 28, and Mohamad Samir, 14. Both were declared brought dead at Rajawadi Hospital.
Two others, identified as Sohel Ansari, 18, and Mohamad Ansari, 14, sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. They are reported to be in stable condition.
Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde also reached the spot and reviewed the ongoing search and rescue operation.
The landslide comes amid heavy rainfall across Mumbai, which has led to waterlogging and disruptions to road and transport services in several parts of the city. Rescue teams continue to search through the debris for anyone who may still be trapped.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as rainfall continues in parts of the city.
