Thane: Doctor Assaulted by Patient’s Relative at Kalyan Hospital

Kalyan, 24th August 2026: A doctor was allegedly assaulted by a patient’s relative following an argument at a private hospital in the Katemanivali area of Kalyan on Saturday night. The incident was captured on CCTV and has once again raised concerns over the safety of doctors and healthcare workers.

According to the complaint, Dr Jaywant Deshmukh was examining a patient who had suffered rib fractures and had come to the hospital for a follow-up examination. During the consultation, Dr Deshmukh was explaining the patient’s treatment to his son. However, the relative allegedly kept asking the same questions and spoke to the doctor in an aggressive manner, leading to an argument.

The situation escalated after the young man left the doctor’s cabin. He allegedly returned a short while later and began assaulting Dr Deshmukh.

The doctor immediately called 112 and informed the police about the incident. Personnel from the Kolsewadi Police Station reached the hospital and took stock of the situation. Dr Deshmukh later lodged a complaint at the police station.

Following the incident, the hospital’s president, secretary and other office-bearers also reached the police station in support of the doctor.

The alleged assault has sparked concern among members of the medical fraternity, once again highlighting the issue of security for doctors and medical staff while treating patients and their relatives.
