Mumbai: Palghar Tribal Women Tie Bamboo Rakhi to Maharashtra Governor

Mumbai, 26th August 2026: Tribal women from Palghar district tied a handmade bamboo rakhi to Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

The women, associated with the Seva Vivek Gram Vikas Kendra, presented the Governor with a rakhi made from bamboo using their traditional handicraft skills. The initiative highlighted not only the spirit of Raksha Bandhan but also the importance of self-reliance, skill development and preservation of tribal culture.

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma appreciated the initiative and praised the women for their hard work and craftsmanship. He also encouraged their efforts towards becoming economically self-reliant.

The Seva Vivek Gram Vikas Kendra has been working for the overall development of tribal communities in Palghar for the past 16 years. Its initiatives focus on issues including education, healthcare, employment, migration and environmental conservation.

The organisation also works to preserve traditional tribal art, culture, customs and social values while creating employment opportunities. By connecting traditional skills with livelihood opportunities, it aims to promote awareness, confidence and self-reliance among tribal communities.

The bamboo rakhi presented to the Governor thus became more than a symbol of Raksha Bandhan, it represented the skills, confidence, cultural heritage and self-reliance of tribal women from Palghar.
