Railway News: Sanjay Khare Takes Charge as Principal Chief Engineer of Central Railway
Mumbai, 7th October 2026: Sanjay Khare took over as Principal Chief Engineer, Central Railway, on October 1, 2026. He succeeds Rajneesh Mathur, who superannuated on September 30, 2026.
Before taking charge as Principal Chief Engineer, Khare was serving as Chief Track Engineer, Western Railway.
Khare is an officer of the 1991 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE). He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and a Diploma from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in Water Resources.
He has completed 32 years of service with the Railways and has worked in various engineering, construction, management and administrative positions.
During his career, Khare served as Assistant Divisional Engineer at Renukoot and Ahmednagar. As Executive Engineer and Deputy Chief Engineer, he was associated with the execution of several construction projects on Central Railway, including the Panvel-Karjat New Line, Latur-Miraj Gauge Conversion and Amravati-Narkhed New Line.
He has also served as Senior Divisional Engineer in both Solapur and Nagpur divisions of Central Railway.
Khare was also associated with the Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering (IRICEN), Pune, where he served as Senior Professor (Works).
His professional experience includes railway construction, infrastructure works, management and general administration across different assignments in Indian Railways.
