Mumbai And Thane Districts Battling Heavy Rainfalls, Waterlogging And Traffic Chaos  

Mumbai, 29th June 2023: Mumbai and Thane districts experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday, causing widespread waterlogging in low-lying areas, resulting in traffic chaos. Local train services were disrupted for three consecutive days, further aggravating the problems of the passengers. However, relief spread through in the evening as the rain subsided.

Mumbai and its suburbs have been witnessing continuous rains and thunderstorms since early morning. The intensity of rainfall amplified after 10 o’clock, with Mulund, Borivali, Andheri, Santacruz, and Colaba experiencing most of the rains. Due to the slowdown of road and rail traffic, the employees had to struggle to reach their offices. Mumbai city received 31.72 mm of rain, 84.40 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 83.02 mm in the western suburbs until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Thane district faced incessant rains throughout the day, causing considerable disruption to the lives of its residents. The main roads, highways, and internal roads in the district were flooded due to potholes and waterlogging. The cities of Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Badlapur were the most affected by the rain. Vrindavan Society, Vandana Cinema, and the vicinity of Cadbury were submerged in knee-deep water. There was a traffic jam on the Ghodbunder route all day. Trees were uprooted in several areas, including Ram Maruti Road and Kopri.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that monsoon rains will remain active for another four to five days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts on 29th and 30th June.
