Thane: Building Collapse Near Bhayandar Railway Station, Many People Trapped

Bhayandar, 20th July 2023: In the wake of incessant heavy rain over the past five days, several parts of the state have been grappling with the destructive consequences of nature’s fury. One such consequence was witnessed in Mira-Bhayandar city, where a portion of a building situated in close proximity to Bhayandar railway station (East) tragically collapsed. The incident has raised concerns, as it is feared that numerous individuals might be trapped under the debris.
The mishap occurred during office hours on Thursday morning when a section of the first floor of the Navamurti building, adjacent to Bhayandar East railway station, suddenly fell apart. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, but at least three people have sustained injuries, according to the latest information.
Swiftly responding to the emergency, a team from the fire brigade and the local State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) immediately rushed to the scene to initiate rescue operations. The evacuation process has been underway since then, with the aid of local volunteers and non-governmental organisation teams, all working in conjunction with the administration. However, the exact number of people stranded beneath the rubble remains unclear.
The Deputy Commissioner of The Encroachment Department, Maruti Gaikwad, informed that the collapsed building was approximately 35 years old. In light of this incident, authorities have undertaken the crucial task of clearing and demolishing the structure to prevent any further risks to public safety.
