Mumbai Police Detain Protesting MLAs Demanding Reservation For Maratha Community
Mumbai, 1st November 2023: Protests and hunger strikes are intensifying over the issue of Maratha reservation in Maharashtra. MLAs from various political parties gathered at the Mantralaya gate in Mumbai to demand Maratha reservation, resulting in their detainment by the police. The MLAs expressed their strong support for Maratha society and questioned why they were being detained for advocating reservation. Slogans such as ‘Ek Maratha Lakh Maratha’ were raised during the protest.
The protesting all party MLAs, including Maval MLA Sunil Shelke, called for a convention to discuss and grant reservations to the Maratha community. They remained firm in their stance and declared that they would continue to protest even if detained, emphasizing the importance of the Maratha community reservation.
These MLAs were brought to the Azad Maidan Police Station after their detention. Previously, they had protested near the Gandhi statue and met with the governor. A meeting of all party leaders has been convened at Sahyadri Guest House to address the Maratha reservation issue and discuss potential solutions.
The ongoing hunger strike by activist Manoj Jarange Patil, who has reached his eighth day without food, has further exacerbated the urgency of the Maratha reservation matter. As public movements gain momentum, all eyes are on whether the government will make a decision regarding the Maratha reservation.
