Health Workers March to Thane Collector Office, Demand 50% Reservation and Equal Pay

Thane, 29th November 2023: The National Rural Health Mission Officer Staff Action Committee organized a march to the Thane Collector Office to demand 50 per cent reservation in recruitment for contract officers and employees in government hospitals under the National Health Mission.

The committee is also seeking equal pay for equal work for these employees. Approximately 700 to 800 employees participated in the march, emphasizing the importance of their contributions, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. They claim to have faced salary disparities despite their significant role in health-related activities.

The committee had previously organized a protest at Azad Maidan, and while they received verbal assurances from Health Minister Tanaji Sawant, they are still awaiting a formal written response from the government. The employees have warned of a larger march involving 23,000 participants in Nagpur if their demands are not met.
