Mumbai Shivers at Night: Minimum Temperature Plunges Below 20°C, Days Remain Hot

Mumbai, 14th December 2023: Mumbai witnessed a drop in temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius for the first time this season on Wednesday, signalling the onset of winter chill in the city. Despite the cooler mornings, the maximum temperature continues to soar above 30 degrees Celsius, resulting in a blend of cold mornings and hot afternoons for residents of Mumbai city and its suburbs.

According to data from the Meteorological Department’s Colaba centre, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 21.5 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 30.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Santa Cruz centre noted a minimum temperature of 19.4 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 32.4 degrees Celsius. Both centres reported a decrease of 1 degree in the minimum temperature compared to Tuesday.

While mornings have become colder, the daytime temperatures remain on the warmer side, with the maximum temperature showing an upward trend. The south-eastern winds have contributed to the moderate temperatures in Mumbai, preventing a significant drop in the overall temperature.

The Meteorological Department predicts that Mumbai is unlikely to experience a substantial change in maximum temperatures over the next three to four days. The city may continue to witness a mix of cold mornings and relatively hotter afternoons. The weather experts anticipate a perceptible drop in temperatures towards the end of December, providing respite from the current weather patterns.

Despite the expected cooling in the last days of December, the Meteorological Department forecasts that the maximum temperature is not likely to decrease significantly until January. Residents are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to adapt to the varying temperatures throughout the day.
