Former Assistant Commissioner of Police Dies in Tragic Mumbai Accident

Mumbai, 29th December 2023: In a heartbreaking incident in Mumbai, Mohammed Javed, a 72-year-old retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, lost his life in a late-night accident near his Mazgaon residence on Tuesday. The tragic event unfolded when Javed was struck by a taxi near Y Junction at Mujawar Pakhadi Road around 11 pm while taking a late-night walk. Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to JJ Hospital with severe injuries, Javed succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The taxi driver, identified as Sudhir Keshav Prasad Sharma (40), was swiftly arrested by the Sewri police. He now faces charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligence and rash and negligent driving, in addition to violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Known for his enthusiasm for fitness and participation in marathons, Javed retired in 2010. Colleagues and well-wishers mourned his untimely demise as they laid him to rest at Nariyalwadi Kabrastan in south Mumbai on Wednesday. Javed is survived by his son, Dr Muddasir, who is an orthopaedic surgeon.
