This year proved to be favorable for major superstars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Prabhas, and Ranbir Kapoor, who reconnected with audiences through compelling cinema.
Shah Rukh Khan dominated 2023 with three releases, and ‘Jawaan,’ directed by Atlee, emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, earning Rs 582 crores. Sunny Deol’s blockbuster ‘Gadar 2’ garnered six times more at the box office than its predecessor, amassing a lifetime collection of Rs 525 crore. Another significant contribution came from Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s film ‘Pathan,’ directed by Siddharth Anand, which raked in Rs 524 crore in Hindi alone.
Ranbir Kapoor and Bobby Deol’s film ‘Animal,’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, made waves with impressive earnings, surpassing Salman Khan’s ‘Tiger 3’ in Hindi. ‘Animal’ secured its place as the fourth highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year, collecting Rs 490 crore. Despite mixed reviews, ‘Tiger 3’ featuring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif claimed the fifth spot with a lifetime business of Rs 276 crore in Hindi.
‘The Kerala Story,’ starring Adah Sharma and directed by Sudipto Sen, faced controversies but garnered good box office numbers, accumulating a lifetime collection of Rs 239 crore. Shah Rukh Khan’s presence was notable, with three of his films, including ‘Donkey,’ surpassing Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ and ‘Rocky Aur Rani’s Prem Kahani.’ ‘Donkey’ directed by Rajkumar Hirani reached Rs 161 crore within a week.
Karan Johar’s directorial comeback, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani,’ featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, surpassed the 100 crore mark at the Indian box office, concluding with a lifetime collection of around Rs 153.55 crore. Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s ‘Oh My God-2’ competed with ‘Gadar 2’ but found success, achieving a lifetime business of Rs 151 crore.
