Delhi Lawyer Acquires Dawood Ibrahim’s Family Land in Ratnagiri Auction for Over Rs 2 Crore

Mumbai, 6th January 2024: Delhi-based lawyer Ajay Srivastava secured two agricultural plots previously owned by fugitive terrorist Dawood Ibrahim’s mother, Amina Bi, in Khed taluka of Ratnagiri. The auction, held on Friday, saw no takers for the two other plots associated with Amina Bi.

The smallest plot, spanning 171 sqm and initially valued at Rs 15,440, astoundingly fetched just over Rs 2 crore—marking a staggering 1,300 times the reserve price.

Ajay Srivastava, who had previously acquired Dawood’s ancestral home in Khed for Rs 11.2 lakh in 2020, expressed his intent to utilize the newly acquired land for a sanatan dharma pathshala trust and a hostel for students of the sanatan school. “I had also purchased adjoining land from the open market in 2017-18,” he added.

When questioned about the substantial bid for a plot with a nominal reserve price, Srivastava revealed, “The survey number of this land, my birth date, and the quoted price align numerologically in my favor. In 2020, I also bought Dawood’s bungalow.”

Situated in Mumbake village, Khed taluka—the childhood home of Dawood and his siblings—the auction witnessed seven bidders participating. Another property auctioned was a 1,730-sq-m agricultural land with a reserve price of Rs 1.56 lakh. Three bidders vied for this property, ultimately sold to the highest bidder for Rs 3.28 lakh.

The auction, supervised by Surabhi Sharma and Amit Kumar from the competent authority and administrator of the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (Safema), occurred through e-auction, public auction, and tender in a sealed envelope.

Safema, an entity under the Union Ministry of Finance, manages the auction of confiscated properties in cases related to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) and smuggling post the completion of all court proceedings.

The four properties listed in the auction collectively had a reserve price of Rs 19.2 lakh.
