Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Intensifies Drive Against Unauthorized Structures and Encroachments

Mumbai, 6th January 2024: In a bid to enhance the beauty and cleanliness of Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its efforts to address unauthorized hoardings, banners, abandoned vehicles, and encroachments on footpaths within its limits. Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr Ashwini Joshi chaired a review meeting at the BMC headquarters to reinforce the commitment to beautification and cleanliness.

One of the key directives from the meeting involved issuing notices to printing professionals responsible for producing unauthorized boards and banners. Dr. Joshi emphasized the need to hold both those putting up unauthorized structures and the printers accountable for their actions. This step aims to deter the production of such materials without proper permission.

During the review meeting, Dr Ashwini Joshi assessed the progress of encroachment clearance proceedings in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The campaign, aimed at beautifying Mumbai, has faced obstacles from unauthorized structures, particularly hoardings on road dividers. Dr. Joshi urged swift action against such structures to maintain the city’s aesthetic appeal.

Dr Joshi directed the BMC to take immediate action to remove abandoned and junk vehicles within its limits. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of creating a cleaner and more organized urban environment.

While acknowledging the ongoing drive to clear footpaths of encroachments, Dr Joshi urged the acceleration of these efforts. If required, assistance from the police should be sought to ensure the efficient removal of encroachments. The focus is on maintaining coordination among all ward offices and departments involved in the campaign.

Dr. Joshi emphasized the importance of coordination among various departments and urged officials to work together seamlessly. All concerned departments, including ward offices, were instructed to carry out the campaign in unison. Additionally, Dr. Joshi mandated that comprehensive reports on the actions taken by each department be submitted to senior officials.
