Central Railway Conducts Emergency Preparedness Drill at CSMT Mumbai
Mumbai, 07th May 2025: In a proactive effort to enhance safety and readiness, Central Railway’s Civil Defence Organization successfully conducted a comprehensive emergency preparedness drill at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai. The mock exercise, which aimed to assess and improve the preparedness of both railway personnel and the general public, simulated a range of critical emergency scenarios.
The drill began with the activation of air raid sirens, followed by a demonstration of how citizens can protect themselves during such alerts, including the correct technique for assuming a lying down position to minimize risk. It also included practical training on safely lifting and transporting injured individuals without the use of a stretcher, ensuring a quick and secure transfer to nearby medical facilities.
Another key scenario addressed during the exercise was the management of severe blood loss. Trained personnel demonstrated life-saving techniques to control haemorrhaging in serious injuries, stressing the importance of swift action in critical situations.
Fire safety was another important focus of the drill. Participants showed how to handle fire emergencies in the absence of a fire extinguisher, using alternative methods to control flames. They also demonstrated the correct operation of fire extinguishers for tackling different types of fires, ensuring that both railway staff and passengers are equipped to respond effectively.
The drill saw the active participation of 30 well-trained civil defence volunteers from Central Railway, who played a vital role in its successful execution. K. K. Mishra, Deputy General Manager, and Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer, were present to oversee the proceedings.
Following the success at CSMT, similar emergency preparedness drills are being conducted at key locations across the Central Railway network, including LTT Mumbai, Dadar, Matunga, and Manmad. These initiatives are part of Central Railway’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety awareness and emergency response among railway personnel and the millions of passengers it serves daily.
