Central Railway Motorman Stops Train in Time, Saves Man Lying Close to Tracks

Thane, 18th August 2025: Central Railway motorman S K Khairnar averted a possible tragedy on Independence Day when he stopped an empty train rake just in time to save a man lying dangerously close to the railway tracks on the Parsik line in the early hours of August 15, 2025.

Khairnar, who was moving an empty rake from Sanpada to Diva for induction into service, spotted the man on the track and immediately applied emergency brakes, halting the train only a few meters away. After verbally appealing to the man to move away and not endanger his life, the motorman resumed the journey.

According to railway officials, the incident could have turned fatal had it been a passenger train running at 90–100 kmph, as sudden braking with passengers on board poses risks and makes it difficult to stop at such a short distance.

Central Railway stated that such incidents of trespassing or lying close to tracks not only endanger lives but also cause severe stress and trauma to the motormen and loco pilots. They also lead to delays and disruptions in train services due to bunching of following trains.

The railway administration has once again appealed to citizens to avoid trespassing or walking near tracks and cooperate in ensuring safe and timely travel for all passengers.
