Mumbai, 2nd October 2026: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led by founder Abhijeet Dipke, has announced the next phase of its nationwide agitation against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, warning of a march to Delhi and a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 if Kumar does not resign.

The announcement came during the CJP’s protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Friday, where supporters gathered to demand Kumar’s resignation. The organisation has described the next phase as “Season 2” of its campaign.

CJP’s demand for Kumar’s resignation is primarily linked to controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The organisation has alleged that the electoral-roll revision process threatens voters’ rights and has demanded greater transparency from the Election Commission.

The issue gained further attention after The Indian Express reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections on at least 14 occasions over a 10-month period regarding certain decisions and orders. According to the report, some of the objections concerned decisions connected with the electoral-roll revision process.

The Election Commission, however, has maintained that its three-member panel takes decisions collectively and has said that decisions, including those related to SIR, were taken unanimously.

CJP has used these developments to demand Kumar’s resignation and has also called for greater transparency in the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner, including participation from civil society. Dipke has additionally demanded that the 2025 voter list be frozen and not be further altered.

‘Wherever They Stop Us Will Become Our Jantar Mantar’

Announcing the next phase of the movement, CJP said that if Kumar does not resign, supporters from across India will march towards Delhi on October 10.

“If Gyanesh Kumar doesn’t resign, cockroaches from across India will march to Delhi and protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10,” the organisation said.

CJP further warned that if Delhi Police attempts to stop the march, the protesters will continue their demonstration at the location where they are stopped.

“Wherever they stop us will become our Jantar Mantar,” the organisation said.

The group said the proposed agitation would remain peaceful and invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s approach to non-violent protest.

“Ours will be a peaceful andolan. We will walk on the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi,” CJP said.

The organisation also referred to the events of July 20, alleging that protesters had faced police brutality during an earlier demonstration. CJP said it was now up to the government and Delhi Police to decide whether the protesters’ right to peaceful assembly would be respected.

CJP Frames Protest as Fight Over Electoral Democracy

CJP has framed its campaign as a broader movement concerning electoral transparency and citizens’ voting rights.

“Every citizen who wants free and fair elections must join,” the organisation said in its appeal.

The group had initially issued a 48-hour deadline for Kumar to resign in September, warning that it would launch a nationwide campaign if he did not step down. It subsequently announced protests in multiple states and a larger mobilisation in Delhi.

The CJP’s campaign is separate from protests being planned by opposition parties against the Election Commission. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has said the organisation intends to maintain its independent identity rather than join the Opposition’s planned October 6 protest.

The latest announcement marks an escalation of the CJP’s campaign, with the proposed October 10 Delhi mobilisation now being presented as the next major phase if its demand for Kumar’s resignation remains unmet.
