Dubai Businessman Harish Chainani Allegedly Defrauds Thane Architect of Rs 8 Crore

Thane, 23rd July 2024: A 58-year-old architect from Thane has reported being defrauded of Rs 8 crore by a Dubai-based businessman, Harish Chainani.

The Naupada police registered the case on July 20, detailing that the fraud occurred between April 2022 and March 2023. The complainant was introduced to Chainani by a friend, Moinuddin, who informed him that Chainani, a Dubai resident dealing in luxury watches, operated a business supposedly registered with the Delhi registrar of companies and had a main office in Mumbai, where his father and brother were directors.

Chainani convinced the architect to invest in his business, promising a 12% annual return. Over several months, from April 2022 to February 2023, the architect handed over Rs 4 crore in cash and 13 watches, including a Rolex, to Chainani’s employees in Mumbai. Chainani assured him of timely payment of interest and the return of the watches.

However, Chainani failed to fulfil his promises, disconnected his phone, and disappeared. The architect, realizing he had been scammed, subsequently reported the incident to the police.
