Enhanced Security Measures Planned for PM Modi’s Visit to Thane, With Thousands of Officers Deployed

Thane, 2nd October 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Thane on Saturday, October 5, 2024, to take part in the Chief Minister’s Women Empowerment Campaign and address attendees at the Valawalkar Ground, Haware City, located in Borivade Village along Ghodbunder Road. In light of this event, security measures will be significantly enhanced, involving the deployment of 4 Additional Police Commissioners, 9 Deputy Commissioners, 16 Assistant Commissioners, 63 Police Inspectors, 178 Sub-Inspectors, 1,110 male officers, and 336 female officers. The security force will also include plain-clothed personnel and a Quick Response Team.

To ensure the event runs smoothly, a meeting of senior officials took place at the Thane Municipal Corporation headquarters on September 30, 2024. An estimated 40,000 attendees are expected, with 1,200 buses arranged to transport people from nearby municipal areas to Ghodbunder Road.

Key officials in attendance included Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, District Collector Ashok Shingare, and senior representatives from organizations such as the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation, MMRDA, and the Public Works Department. Discussions centred on logistics, traffic management, and contingency plans for potential disruptions, including rain.

Given the rainy season, District Collector Shingare instructed officials to ensure adequate preparations for the main Sabha mandap and parking facilities, along with backup plans for power and internet services. Municipal Commissioner Rao emphasized the importance of informing the public about road closures and alternative routes, as heavy traffic is anticipated.

The meeting also reviewed the readiness of key event locations, including the helipad, vehicle and bus parking, power supply, CCTV networks, and access roads. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat outlined the parking arrangements for the 1,200 buses and the travel routes for VIPs.

Public Works Department officials confirmed that designated bus parking areas are being prepared. Superintendent Engineer Siddharth Tambe provided updates on the setups for the main Sabha mandap and helipad. Following the meeting, senior officials conducted a joint inspection of the event site.
