Seven More Children Hospitalized in Thane Due to Suspected Food Poisoning; Total Affected Reaches 45
Thane, 2nd October 2024: Seven additional children were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning after eating a mid-day meal at a private school near Thane, Maharashtra, raising the total number of affected students to 45, officials reported on Wednesday.
The children, aged 8 to 11, were taken to a civic hospital in Kalwa after exhibiting symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, headaches, and abdominal pain following lunch on Tuesday, according to hospital staff.
Initially, 38 students were admitted on Tuesday, with seven more arriving later that night. Dr Aniruddha Malgaonkar, the medical in-charge of the hospital, stated that the children were under close observation and were expected to be discharged by Wednesday afternoon if they were deemed stable.
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi confirmed that all the children were out of danger and responding well to treatment. He also verified that the students had consumed a mid-day meal at the private school.
A medical official indicated that the meal included rice and moth bean (matki) curry. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has collected food samples for further examination.
The school administration quickly arranged for ambulances to transport the affected children to the hospital as their symptoms worsened. Concerned parents gathered at the hospital to support their children during their treatment.
