Fraudulent Job Offer Scheme in Thane: Accused Collect Rs 13.4 Lakh from Victims

Thane, 5th August 2024: Three individuals have been charged with defrauding ten people of ₹13.4 lakh by falsely promising them jobs at a municipal hospital in Thane, Maharashtra, police reported on Saturday. Following a complaint from one of the victims, a case was registered on Friday at the Naupada police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Raza Abdul Rashid Sheikh, Abhijit Kulkarni, and Prakash Durve, allegedly collected money from the victims through online transactions starting in January 2023, offering positions in the x-ray billing department of a civic hospital.

The suspects allegedly forged various documents, including offer letters, training and joining letters, and appointment letters, purportedly issued by the Thane municipal commissioner. The scheme was uncovered when the victims contacted the civic office and verified the authenticity of the documents with senior officials. An investigation is currently underway.
