Govinda Refused Mahabharat Role Due To Mother’s Advice, Thrown Out By BR Chopra

Mumbai, 11th March 2025: Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda recently shared a fascinating anecdote about his early career, revealing how he was thrown out of filmmaker BR Chopra’s office after declining a role in the iconic television series Mahabharat.

In a conversation with Mukesh Khanna on his YouTube channel, Govinda recounted that he refused to play the role of Abhimanyu based on his mother’s advice, which led to a heated exchange with Chopra.

Govinda explained that he had a close relationship with the Chopra family, often helping with household chores at their home. When he was called to BR Chopra’s office for the role, he stated, “My mom has said no to do this role.
I won’t do it.”

This response surprised Chopra, who asked about his mother’s influence. Govinda clarified that his mother, a Sadhvi, held significant sway in his life and career decisions. At the time, he did not regard BR Chopra as an influential figure in the industry.

The situation escalated when Govinda mentioned that his mother had acted in several films and was senior to him in the industry. BR Chopra, known for his short temper, reacted by calling Govinda’s mother “mad” and ordered him out of the office, exclaiming, “Ye kya pagal hai, bahar nikalo isko!” (Who is this mad person? Throw him out!). Despite this incident, Govinda went on to become one of Bollywood’s most beloved actors.

In recent times, Govinda has also been in the news regarding personal matters, including rumors of a divorce from his wife Sunita Ahuja. However, he has not confirmed these reports.
