Heavy Rains Disrupt Bus Services Across Maharashtra; MSRTC Cancels 7,820 Trips, BEST Diverts 98 Routes

Mumbai, 7th July 2026: Relentless monsoon rains continued to disrupt public transport across Maharashtra, with the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) cancelling 7,820 bus trips over the past two days, leading to an estimated revenue loss of ₹2.3 crore. In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking diverted 98 bus routes due to widespread waterlogging, fallen trees and road blockages.

According to MSRTC officials, persistent heavy rainfall and flooded roads forced the temporary suspension of services on several routes across Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar and Pune divisions. The Mumbai-Pune corridor was among the worst affected, additionally services in the Palghar division also faced major disruptions due to inundated roads and poor driving conditions.

The heavy rains also affected operations at MSRTC’s Mumbai Central headquarters, with many employees unable to reach the office on time, delaying the collection and coordination of operational updates. To ensure continuous monitoring and effective management of the situation, the corporation has activated a dedicated control room.

Passengers have been advised to contact their respective bus depots before commencing their journey to check the latest status of bus services.

Meanwhile, BEST bus operations in Mumbai were also severely impacted. Waterlogging, fallen trees, open manhole covers and road obstructions forced authorities to divert buses on 98 routes. Diversions were implemented in several areas, including Andheri Subway, Malad Subway, Vidyavihar, Bhandup, Goregaon, Colaba and Mazgaon, with buses operating on alternate routes until roads were declared safe.

The rain also triggered several technical issues within the BEST fleet. Officials reported that 135 buses developed rain-related mechanical faults, including engine failures and malfunctioning windshield wipers, while seven buses remained completely out of service during the day.

Authorities said repair work was carried out throughout the day, and services were gradually restored wherever weather conditions improved. Both MSRTC and BEST have urged commuters to stay updated on service changes and travel only after verifying the latest operational information, as heavy rainfall is expected to continue in parts of the state.
