Heavy Rains Disrupt Life in Mumbai; School Holiday in Thane, Mumbai Students Await Decision

Mumbai, 18th August 2025: Continuous heavy rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs since Sunday night has disrupted normal life, affecting road and rail traffic and raising questions about school closures.
While Thane district has declared a holiday for schools, parents in Mumbai are eagerly waiting to know if a similar decision will be made in the city. The District Magistrate has the authority to declare such holidays, and an official announcement for Mumbai schools may be expected by tonight.
The rains intensified on Monday morning, affecting morning traffic and prompting many workers to leave offices early. Roads and drains have been overflowing in several areas, making commuting difficult. Local train services on Central Railway were delayed, with water accumulating at stations including Dadar, Byculla, and Kurla since 11 am.
In Kalyan-Dombivli, continuous rain since Saturday has slowed down market traffic and created a misty atmosphere. Afternoon sessions in many schools were declared a holiday, bringing relief to students. Roads in Dombivli, including Manpada, Tilakpath, MIDC West, Mahatma Phule Road, Subhash Road, Deendayal Road, Kopar, and Kumbharkhan Pada, experienced waterlogging and potholes, hampering rickshaw and two-wheeler movement.
In Kalyan, areas such as Chakki Naka, Tisgaon, and Tisai in the east faced water accumulation, causing obstacles for pedestrians and drivers. Shivaji Chowk and nearby vegetable market areas witnessed traffic congestion, while business activity slowed due to the downpour. Commuters struggled to find available rickshaws at stations, adding to the inconvenience.
The persistent rain has left citizens hoping for better drainage management and timely government decisions on school closures as the city continues to deal with waterlogging, traffic jams, and disrupted daily routines.
