HOMAGE PAID TO THE HEROES OF 1971 INDO-PAK WAR ON VIJAY DIWAS

Mumbai, 16 December 2023: On the occasion of victory in 1971 Indo-Pak War and to recall the ‘Golden Chapter’ in India’s Military History, Headquarters Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area commemorated 52 years of India’s glorious victory in Indo-Pak war of 1971 (Vijay Diwas).

A solemn wreath laying ceremony was organised at Shaheed Smarak, Colaba Military Station at Mumbai to commemorate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces and pay homage to the fallen warriors. Wreaths were laid by Lt Gen HS Kahlon, GOC Maharashtra Gujarat and Goa Area, RAdm KS Rajkumar, CSO (Ops) HQ Western Naval Command, AVM Rajat Mohan, AOC HQ Maritime Air Operations, Officers from the tri-services and Veterans at Shaheed Smarak, Colaba. The War Veterans were also felicitated after the wreath laying ceremony.

The 1971 war is unparalleled in world military history. In a quick campaign, Indian Armed forces shoulder to shoulder with Mukti Bahini, ended the tyranny of Pakistan and helped create a new nation. Those who fought the war have written an epic saga of valour, grit, determination and glory.
