Indian badminton stalwart B Sai Praneeth bids farewell to his illustrious 24-year-long career

Pune, 05 Mar 2024: B Sai Praneeth, the veteran shuttler announces his retirement from international badminton. The decision comes after his remarkable journey that included a bronze medal at the BWF World Championships and participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In an emotional statement shared on social media, Sai Praneeth expressed gratitude for the sport that has been his lifelong passion and source of purpose. He reminisced about the memories and challenges that have shaped his character and career, acknowledging badminton as his first love and constant companion.

Transitioning to a new chapter, Sai Praneeth embarks on a coaching role as the head coach of the Triangle Badminton Academy in the USA, commencing next month. His coaching journey marks a continuation of his profound contribution to the sport.

Throughout his career, Sai Praneeth achieved notable milestones, including a historic victory at the 2017 Singapore Open and a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships in Switzerland. His achievements include being the second Indian man to clinch a medal at the BWF World Championships, following the footsteps of the legendary Prakash Padukone.

Recognized with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2019, Sai Praneeth’s legacy also comprises triumphs at the Canada Open in 2016 and the Singapore Open and Thailand Open in 2017. Despite struggles with injuries, he remained a resilient competitor, representing India with honor and determination.
