Kandivali Hotel Fire: 11 Rescued After Early Morning Blaze at Abhirai Hotel in Mumbai

Mumbai, 17th August 2026: An early morning fire broke out at Abhirai Hotel on Kandivali Station Road in Mumbai’s Kandivali West on Monday, with 11 people rescued from a lodging house on the second floor of the building.

The fire was reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade Control at around 4:14 am. The blaze was classified as a Level-I fire and affected electrical wiring, electrical installations, wooden furniture, tarpaulin, bamboo and plastic materials at an adjacent temporary fruit stall.

The commercial building, comprising a basement, ground floor and four upper floors, was reportedly smoke-logged during the incident. The fire also affected clothes, wooden furniture and a false ceiling across an area of around 50 square feet on the fourth floor. Aluminium and plastic decorative sheets on the exterior of the building were also affected.

Firefighters rescued 11 people from the second-floor lodging house through the staircase. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The fire was brought under control and completely extinguished at around 6:07 am following firefighting and rescue operations at the site.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade has not yet provided details on the cause of the fire. The incident comes amid renewed concerns around fire safety in Mumbai buildings, following other recent fire incidents reported across the city.
