Mumbai: Cart-Puller Fatally Assaulted by Housing Society Residents in Khetwadi

Mumbai, 25th October 2024: A 45-year-old cart-puller was fatally assaulted by residents of a housing society in Khetwadi, Girgaon, due to his alleged disruptive behaviour from drinking outside their premises where he often slept. Police reported that the society members had grown increasingly frustrated with the disturbances caused by the man.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night when Jalil Jamil Khan, inebriated, attempted to sleep outside the Om Sai Co-operative Society located on 7th Lane. An argument broke out between Khan and the society members, leading to the attack.

He was quickly transported to JJ Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Initially, police filed an accidental death report (ADR) at the D B Marg police station. However, following the post-mortem, which revealed multiple injuries, a murder investigation was initiated.

A police officer noted that although the doctors reserved their final opinion, CCTV footage suggested Khan was attacked with sticks. Based on this evidence, authorities arrested Vishal Shinde and Mayank Jethva, both of whom live in the cooperative society and are investigating the involvement of other individuals in the assault.

The case was subsequently transferred to the V P Road police station, which has now registered charges under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the housing society members.
